Author Guidelines

Thank you for choosing to submit your paper to us. These instructions will ensure we have everything required so your paper can move through peer review, production and publication smoothly. Please take the time to read and follow them as closely as possible, as doing so will ensure your paper matches the journal's requirements.

Peer Review

The editors of the New North Star are committed to peer-review integrity and upholding the highest standards of review. Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by the editors, it will then be double blind peer-reviewed by expert referees.

Preparing your paper

Formatting

Papers must be submitted in Microsoft Word. Figures should be saved separately from the text. The main document should be double-spaced, with 1 inch margins on all sides, and all pages should be numbered consecutively. Text should appear in 12-point Times New Roman or other common 12-point font. All titles should be as brief as possible, 6 to 12 words. The length must not exceed 25 pages excluding title page and references.

Style guidelines

Submissions should follow the style guidelines described in the Chicago Manual of Style Online http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/home.html. Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th ed.) should be consulted for spelling.

Submission Checklist: what to include

  1. Author details - All authors of a manuscript should include their full name and affiliation on the cover page of the manuscript. One author will need to be identified as the corresponding author, with their email address normally displayed in the published article. Authors’ affiliations are the affiliations where the research was conducted. If any of the named co-authors moves affiliation during the peer-review process, the new affiliation can be given as a footnote. Please note that authorship may not be changed after acceptance. Also, no changes to affiliation can be made after your paper is accepted.
  2. Abstract - This summary of your article is normally no longer than 200 words
  3. Keywords - Keywords are the terms that are most important to the article and should be terms readers may use to search. Authors should provide 3 to 5 keywords. These will be embedded in the article to make it more discoverable via online search engines.
  4. Figures - Figures should be high quality (600 dpi for black & white art and 300 dpi for color). Figures should be saved as TIFF, PostScript or EPS files. Figures embedded in your text may not be able to be used in final production.
  5. Tables - Please supply editable table files. We recommend including simple tables at the end of your manuscript, or submitting a separate file with tables.
