Abstract

The authors, two experienced fundraisers, explain why private fund raising is important for public metropolitan universities. In this article, they describe the beginning of a $50 million campaign at the University of Massachusetts Boston, a 33 yearold institution that had never previously mounted a major fundraising effort.
