Call for the next issue of ENGAGE!, “Homelessness and Housing Insecurity: Critical Issues”
May 18th, 2023 -- The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness count found over 582,400 homeless people in America and the Biden Administration says it's aiming to reduce that number 25 percent by 2025. There is a longstanding crisis that has birthed a forceful movement occurring across this country, one that we at ENGAGE! find to be of critical cultural, social, political, and economic importance. This movement seeks to end homelessness, which effects individuals and groups ranging from veterans; families with children; non-profits and their services; federal and local municipalities; businesses and their customers – every corner of this country is impacted by the trauma of homelessness. Housing and homelessness are complicated by racism and sexism, homophobia, privilege and poverty. The National Coalition for the Homeless (https://nationalhomeless.org/) is a network of people who are currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness working to end and prevent homelessness. The Coalition is leading force in the movement. Its single mission: To end and prevent homelessness. Seattle group works to end homelessness by approaching entire camps : NPR
The call for the November issue of ENGAGE! invites community/university collaborating researchers who are addressing housing and homelessness to contribute to the upcoming issue. Submissions should be made by October 6th, 2023. The journal is encouraging policy makers, activists, community and faith-based service providers, scholars and others to contribute as we advance community engaged and community based participatory research.
