Abstract

Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications’ rapid adoption has caused much of academia to rethink its curriculum. This disruptive technology has impacted instruction librarians as well. This study surveyed academic librarians on their impressions of generative AI, how they might be using it in library instruction, and what the best practices and applications might be for the research process. Ninety-nine valid responses were collected and responses were mixed as to how best to use generative AI in library instruction. While no preferred research application emerged from the responses, several respondents expressed a blend of concern and usefulness for generative AI as well as a call for “AI literacy” to become a priority within the academic library profession.
