Hypothesis: Research Journal for Health Information Professionals
Hypothesis, originally the newsletter of the Medical Library Association (MLA) Research Caucus (nee Section), published its inaugural issue in 1987. Hypothesis published is first journal issue in 2015. In 2020, Hypothesis changed to being an open access journal hosted by Indiana University. In 2025, Indiana University agreed to serve as the publisher for Hypothesis.
Hypothesis provides a venue for original library research and research-related content, including research studies and reflections on the process in order to encourage a broader, reflective conversation among health science librarians and information professionals.

New Issue Alert! Vol 37, No 2
2025-09-26Hypothesis has published its second issue of 2025. This is our second year publishing two issues which gets us closer to being included in PubMed indexing. The editors are working to bring new submission categories, website updates, and some special issues. Stay tuned!

Call For Proposals, Hypothesis Feature Issue: Emerging LIS Researchers
2025-01-16The editorial board is seeking submissions from novice researchers, students, and newer authors for a special features issue. Your project doesn’t need to be complete to make a submission. Submissions will be accepted in the following categories: Brief Report, Conference Abstracts, Methods Moment, Failure, Research, Voices of Experience.
