Community Service and Metropolitan Universities: Meeting the Challenge of Social Responsibility
AbstractIntroduced originally on campuses as extracurricular activity, community service is now becoming integrated into the curriculum and into cocurricular activities. The benefits to students, the faculty, the community, and to institutional goals are so significant that metropolitan universities have good reason to support community service programs and to integrate them into educational programs. The article discusses the particular challenges facing metropolitan universities in this effort.
