Abstract

Freedom for Learning describes the entry program for new students. called Assessment. at the College of Public and Community Service of the University of Massachusetts at Boston. CPCS serves a diverse population of urban adults. Its curriculum integrates liberal arts and career education in a competencybased format. The Assessment program orients entering students. It helps them plan individual degree programs assess prior /earning for credit develop speaking skills explore their own culture and the culture of others and become confident. selfdirected learners. The article advocates programs of this nature for entering adult students in other institutions.
