Strengthening Service as Scholarship in the Research University

Abstract

If the research university were to redefine "service as scholarship" what would it be? The substantial intellectual and institutional resources of Americas research universities are not readily accessible to the community. This article analyzes several elements in redefining service as scholarship, identifies obstacles to the process, and suggests ways of overcoming them.
