Abstract

Based upon the principles of the Engaged University (Kellogg Commission 2001), The Institute of Gerontology (JOG) at the University of the District of Columbia developed a model for the scholarship of engagement by building communities of practice within the aging network which may support and enhance student learning outcomes and experiences. The Communities of Practice for Aging Networks (COPAN) model is presented along with a discussion of barriers to, and incentives for, success in an urban setting.
